However, the house leaves a lot to be desired. There are holes in the walls that have been patched with cardboard or bare plaster and aren't repainted. The kitchen is a disaster, with outdated and poorly functioning appliances. The dishwasher somehow leaves the dishes dirtier rather than cleaner. The microwave is tiny and has to be 30 years old. One side of the toaster just didn't work. There is no icemaker or garbage disposal and the kitchen sink barely drains. The cookware, flatware, and silverware provided was inadequate. There is a big ant problem in the kitchen. The wallpaper is peeling and everything about the house screams old and poorly maintained. The windows are disgusting, with the sills and screens full of dead insects. The living room furniture is old and uncomfortable. The floors were filthy the moment we checked in. One paper-thin wall of the kitchen adjoins the property manager's house, so you can hear everything going on next door. Luckily the bedrooms and bathrooms were in slightly better condition or we would have had to leave without staying a single night.
I love staying here! My family and 6 other families rented the big house, the granny house, and the cabin for four days. Altogether we had about 13 adults and 18 kids. This is a trip we take every year, and we plan on coming back. It is close to the park, and it is easy for the kids to fish in the pond and walk around to the other houses to say hi. There are bugs in the big house, which sometimes can cause a problem. Also, the grocery store is a little far away, so be sure to get any extra food you want on your way up to the house. There are patches in the house that need repairing, but the owners are very friendly. The kids love it here, and the adults enjoy themselves too. I definitely recommend staying here!
We rented the Big House for a few days in late July/early August. On the positive side, the views from the house are nice and our kids had plenty of room to run around outside. It's close to Knoebel's amusement park and the property manager seemed like a nice guy.
If you're looking for rustic charm like we were, I recommend you look elsewhere. I didn't expect 5-star service and amenities, but I did expect a simple, clean farmhouse where I could provide for my family. I was sorely disappointed. This place gives the impression of a management company that doesn't put any effort or money into maintaining their property.
We love Knoebels but are not really the camping type. There are not a lot of places to stay that are near the park. You pretty much have to drive all the way to Danville (About 1/2 Hour) to find a hotel room. I searched the Web for Vacation Rentals near Knoebels and CAC Vacation Properties came up. We had a pretty large group...6 adults and 4 kids. We rented The Granny's House, with beds for 8 and couches in the living room which was plenty of space for all of us. The deck had a BBQ grill, a pick nick table and a beautiful view of farmland and mountains. There was a fully stocked kitchen, but we didn't use it much on our short trip. The park was less then 10 minutes away by nice country roads. A really cool place...We will definitely be coming back!
